Miriam Beerman (1923-2022) is in the collections of many major museums including the Metropolitan Museum, the Whitney Museum, the National Gallery of Art, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Phillips Collection, LACMA, the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Fitzwilliam Museum.

She has won many awards including from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Joan Mitchell Foundation, RISD, and others. She was one of the first women to be awarded a solo show at the Brooklyn Museum.

The artist has said: ‘The human and animal forms that appear in my work are the angels and demons of an inner perception. They re-enact the past as well as the future. As I look over the body of my work, I find an underlying theme: the victory of survival despite the affliction of pain, whether personally or politically motivated.’
