Valerie Thornton
Valerie Thornton (1931-1991) worked at the printmaker, S.W. Hayter’s Atelier 17 in Paris in 1954, and from that time, etching became her primary medium. The architecture of medieval churches, in particular those of the Romanesque period, inspired her throughout her life, and she made frequent working trips to Spain, France and Italy in search of material for her etchings. Her prints capture the solidity and order of early medieval wall drawings and carvings.
