Whitby Harbour
Whitby Harbour (1992) depicts the seaside town of Whitby in North Yorkshire, England. Pared-back colours – predominantly white, blue, and brown-grey – reflect the artist’s preference for a limited colour palette. Amongst these muted tones, the bright yellow boat and orange flag centre the work to focus on the three sailors as they journey towards the open sea. The lengthened canvas creates a sense of enclosure within the harbour walls.
